The right shoe care for the winter

Winter is such a beautiful season! However, when it comes to shoes, winter also has its drawbacks with snow, road salt, hail and mud. The right care is crucial, because it protects your shoes so that you can enjoy them for a long time to come.

The general rule for new shoes or shoes that have not been worn for a long time is to spray them with a waterproofing spray before wearing them for the first time. Wetness and dirt are among the greatest dangers for shoes, as they leave stains and attack the material.

Waterproofing creates a protective film on your shoes. Whenever you have cleaned your shoes after wearing them, it is best to spray them again every three to four days for lasting protection.

After walking through snow or rain, first clean your shoes with a damp sponge, otherwise you risk the formation of snow and salt rims.

Do not place soaked shoes in front of or on the radiator, as this can cause cracks and damage the material. It is best to hang them up or place them at an angle to dry at room temperature, removing the insole and drying separately. Ideally, use a shoe tree to keep the shape of the shoe.

If the dirt has already dried, use a shoe brush that matches the material. When the shoes have been cleaned and dried, they still need a shoe care (cream) that matches the shoe material to make the material supple again.

It is recommended to wear at least 2 pairs of winter shoes in rotation, because it is always good to give the shoe enough time to air out and dry.
